The
house is situated in the delightful village of Valdottavo
- 15k north of the beautiful, walled town of Lucca in Northern Tuscany.
The
village is both quiet and peaceful but
at the same time has lots of amenities on it’s doorstep to ensure
you don’t need to venture far for your everyday needs -in fact
the house is only 250 yards walk from the centre
of the village! The village has a number of shops, notably
an excellent butcher/delicatessen which has an extensive choice of
fresh local meat and hams (proscuitto) - highly recommended particularly
when planning for the evening BBQ. Other
shops include a general grocer’s store where fresh
bread, milk, fruit & vegetables are available daily, a
tobac, chemist, Pizzeria, Bar and restaurant. In addition, a small
theatre is currently being restored to its former glory and
is planned to reopen shortly.
The
village is in the perfect location from which
to explore the delights of Italy. A short drive away is the
medieval walled town of Lucca. The
wonderful cities of Florence and Pisa
with their stunning architecture, and along The Italian Riviera
are the lively beach resorts of Forte Dei Marmi and Viareggio, which
are all only 40 minutes away. For those of you who like to venture
a little further I recommend a day trip to the beautiful Isle
of Elba - after only an hour’s drive to Livorno a ferry
can be caught to take you direct to the Isle, famous as the place
of exile of Napoleon Bonaparte.
After
all this activity, relax with a glass of local wine in one of the
many bars or restaurants and sample one of the delicious pasta dishes
or a pizza cooked to perfection in a wood-fired oven. In fact, there
are over a dozen excellent local restaurants to sample, all within
15 minutes, and full details of these can be found in a detailed
folder in the house.
